Bodufolhudhoo Island is located in the heart of Alif Alif Atoll (Northern Ari) of Maldive. Due to island geographical location it is well know for spectacular marine life. A small inhabited and one of the more peaceful local islands that combines traditional village life with budget-friendly tourism. The island covers a compact area of roughly 0.5 – 0.6  km² and is home to a close-knit community of few hundred residents.

Bodufolhudhoo is surrounded by crystal-clear turquoise waters, vibrant coral gardens, and abundant sea life. Its house reef is easily accessible from the beach, making it ideal for both snorkeling and diving right from shore. Turtles, reef sharks, rays, and schools of colorful fish are common sights in the lagoon waters.

Because it lies within North Ari Atoll — one of the Maldives’ premier marine regions — the island is also close to famous dive spots like Maaya Thila and Fish Head, and even manta ray hotspots.

Bodufolhudhoo Island is well known for its strong commitment to preserving nature and keeping its beaches exceptionally clean, making it one of the cleanest islands in Alif Alif Atoll. Although tourism began only recently with the first guesthouse open here in 2015, the local community is very welcoming and actively engaged in developing sustainable tourism.

The island was the first in the atoll to ban plastic bags in local shops, replacing them with eco-friendly cotton bags. Just a five-minute boat ride away is the stunning Mathiveri Finolhu sandbank, easily accessible by motorboat for visitors staying on Bodufolhudhoo.

Nearby, guests can also visit Gangehi Island Resort for a resort tour or to enjoy dining and refreshments at its restaurant or bar. On the island, visitors will find two local cafés, a large children’s playground, and a diving and water sports center currently under development.

How to get there:

The island can be reached from Malé (Velana International Airport) by speedboat, with a journey time of approximately 90–120 minutes. Speedboat transfers are available daily. Guests may also travel by public ferry, which is a more economical but slower option; however, ferry services do not operate every day.

Speedboat transfers are operated by third-party providers and run on scheduled timings. Please note that schedules are subject to change due to weather conditions, sometimes without prior notice.

We highly recommend reserving speedboat tickets in advance, as availability is limited and demand is high. The speedboat service operates as a combined transfer for Bodufolhadhoo, Mathiveri, Ukulhas, and Rasdhoo. Most guesthouses can assist with advance reservations and coordinate directly with the transfer operator to provide the latest schedule updates.

Alternatively, guests may choose a seaplane transfer, which takes approximately 20 minutes from Velana International Airport to Nika Island Resort or Gangehi Island Resort, followed by an additional speedboat transfer to Bodufolhudhoo.
